Clean safe water is important to all households. On average, each person uses 50 to 75 gallons daily to drink, bath, wash, and clean.
City Water:
If you are on City Water, your water is considered safe, but you may not find it completely desirable. Chlorine and Hardness are typical problems you will face and both can easily be removed with proper filters and a water softener.
Rural Well Water:
When you are on well water, the only treatment that is done to your water is what you provide for it. Typical concerns include: Hardness, Staining from Iron, Smell from Sulpher or discolouration from Tannins. We can offer solutions that will take care of these problems and more.
Hardness
Hard water contains large amounts of calcium and magnesium - two minerals that cause the soapy scum on glasses and lime residue on bathroom fixtures. While suitable for drinking and gardening, hard water can cause mineral build-up in water heaters, pipes, dishwashers and showerheads, reducing flow. Soap and shompoo's ability to lather is reduced , and laundry becomes stiffer and duller in appearance. Hardness is corrected with a Water Softener
Iron
Five percent of the earth's crust is iron. It is, therefore, no surprise that many wells contain it in various amounts. It takes just a trace of iron to cause problems: As little as .2ppm can stain plumbing, fixtures, and laundry. In larger amounts, water can become rust coloured and have a metallic taste. Iron can coat the insides of pipes with hard, red scale, which reduces flow rates and plugs filter screens. Depending on how the Iron is disolved, it may be able to be removed by using some of the capacity of your Water Softener or it may be necessary to install an Iron Filter
Tannins
Tannin is a type of organic matter which is familiar to many of us. The yellow to brownish-black color in tea or coffee is partially caused by tannins. When leaves and other vegetation decay, tannins are freed with a resulting colour. Tannins can be removed with a Tannin Filter
Sulphur
Hydrogen sulfide is a flammable, poisonous gas which is produced in water supplies as a result of the decomposition of underground organic deposits. Its presence is easily detected by a characterisitic rotten egg odour and obnoxious taste. Hydrogen sulfide is very corrosive (both in water and in the air) It rapidly tarnishes silver causing it to turn black. A high sulfide content is toxic to aquarium fish.
