Iron Filters
The iron in your water creates a hostile environment for your equipment. On top of this, Small amounts of organic material in your water can cause the media in your iron filter to become less effective as the organics can stick to the media.
We recommend that once a year, you complete these steps to keep your iron/sulphur filter in great running condition.
Do not use household water during this process. Use of water will result in putting bleach into your household plumbing
1. Insert a piece of 3/8 OD tubing into the 1 way air valve on the top of your unit.
2. Insert the other end of the 3/8 tubing into a 1L container of unscented household bleach
3. Press and Hold "Regen" until the motor in the Valve Head starts to turn
4. Allow the filter to backwash
5. After your 8 or 10 minute backwash cycle, the head will change to an air draw cycle. This cycle will now draw the bleach out of the container into the filter.
6. Allow the filter and bleach to rest for at least 1 hour. More time would be better.
IMPORTANT: If you are going to use water during the rest period, put the unit into bypass mode by turning the two red valves on the back of the unit towards each other. Remember to disengage bypass mode to continue the process
7. Once the unit has sat for the period of time, Remove the 3/8" tubing from the empty bleach container. You can disconnect the tubing from the one way valve and store it in a safe place for next time. The one-way valve must stay connected to the unit with the short piece of 3/8 tubing, with the arrow facing the filter. Failure to do so could result in minor flooding.Â
Press and hold "Regen" until the unit starts to regenerate. This will wash all bleach out of the unit. Allow the unit to finish the entire regen. This regen will consist of a backwash cycle and an air draw cycle for a total of about an hour.
